Diverse Pathways: Integrating multiple communication mediums such as fiber optic network connections combined wireless connections such as 5G/LTE or NTN (Non Terrestrial Network) connections using satellite as back up, so a single provider outage does not cut off operations. Although high capacity (1G or more) wireless options may not be financially feasible, lower capacity or even on-demand capacity may be a good option and still provide a diverse connection path to maintain operational continuity. Keep in mind that wireless and satellite connections are rarely affected by the same catastrophic event that caused the primary connection to go down, however in most cases 5G/LTE is only wireless to the nearest tower location. Meaning after the signal is received at the tower it rides fiber infrastructure to the wireless core and most of the total route. The good news is not very many satellites have been taken out by backhoe that I’m aware of. This is where creativity can really shine with so many options available each with unique pro and cons.

This is more common as the route gets closer to specific locations such as a Central Office, IXC, or Data Center. The reason is these locations have installed an abundance of ducts and fiber cables into the buildings for the purpose of ease of access. Fortunately, more modern meet point locations also have dual entrance facilities. Meaning they installed excess facilities entering the building from opposing directions. Of course, if your looking to maximize uptime using diverse entrance facilities is table steaks. Network redundancy is where you will get the most for your money to maximize uptime.
